Katherine Follett’s – The Gossip Monster

Katherine Follett’s The Gossip Monster is an excellent story for children and adults. This story addresses bullying, deception and consequences. Many readers will assume this book to be quite simple at first but the theme within this book is surprisingly deep.

The story is told from a first person point of view by a young girl. She begins to spread rumors about a boy in her class which escalates beyond her control. Eventually she’ll have to identify what is morally right and wrong.

Readers will be able to empathize with the perpetrator as well as the victim of this story, because let’s face it - we’ve all been in that nasty situation sometime in our life. The relationship between classmates and friends is portrayed so realistically that any child will reflect deeply on the lesson of this profound story.
